So I’ve done a number of streaming theme nights over the year when i remember, etc. I’ve had fun doing all of them and gonna continue them and managed to write the 5 down so I can consolidate any ideas into them and so on. The 5 main ones are the following:
- Mega Man Derusting
- System Discovery
- Hack/RPG Hack Showcases
- Variety Theme Nights
On the side there will be:
- Arcade Night
- Short Adventure Theatre
- Mario Mania
- Mega Man Viewer’s Choice
Obviously some of these have a limited life until I finish my listings for them. Will they be replaced with something else? I don’t know yet. Some descriptions are actually from the italic intros for some of those blog posts so they’ll look the same, I just expanded a number of them. The ones that will have posts related to them are: Retrorevisited, Mega Man Derusting, Hack Showcases, Short Adventure Theatre. Some variety theme nights will have a blog post attached.
Will try to do a week of the main 5 monthly, or longer depending on how long some streams may last like Mega Man. Other 4 was thinking of doing on weekends. maybe I’ll bring back FF4 Free Enterprise for an even 10.
Retrorevisited is a stream series where I revisit a game or a game series i haven’t played in over 10 or 20 years. I’ll go through to try see what i remember until a game over or I run out of continues. In some cases muscle memory may slowly return, in others probably not. This is a chance for me to revisit games of my youth that i enjoyed have or had at one point and bring more to the retro community with mini-reviews of them too. Jank or not, I’m gonna replay them to see if they still hold the magic for me. If I decide to play one later and do a full review, parts of the mini-review would be incorporated into it. Depending on the playstyle and graphics of the games the review will either be mini-reviews or one about all games in this session. I’m playing all the classics from SMB to TMNT to some sports! Usually end up being 1 streaming night.
Mega Man Derusting
So I have a long history with the Mega Man games growing up. I came up with the Mega Man Derusting series to do such a task. I’d start relearning and finally completing the early MM titles 1-8.I still have Mega Man 1-4 and hadn’t really played them in years. I wanted to share my adventures on stream of relearning my way through the classic titles, and in some cases finish some to completion! As of this writing up to MM5, was going to stop at 8, depending on 8’s difficulty. may still do 9-11 on the Steam Legacy collection.
Growing up I’ve had, and still have my atari 2600, nes, snes, dreamcast, n64, and ps2. there’s other systems I never played growing up either on real hardware or emulation, so I compiled a list of what I could remember and wanted to share my discovery of these systems. Few of them I’ve played before in the past but don’t remember much of them. I’ll play some variety of games, good and bad, depending on the system between 10 and 20, likely doing 2 streams per system. These streams will likely continue with another run of games for that system depending on the size of their libraries. Just hoping Retroarch doesn’t throw a fit with some of them, lol. Most likely won’t be doing mini-reviews of these considering the amount of games I’d be playing.
Hack Showcases and RPG Hack Showcases are a series where I show off various game and rpg hacks. I try to stick with hacks that improve gameplay or add quality of life features, completely or partially change the plot and characters, along with dialogue, graphical and sound improvements. I try to stick with games that have enough changes in the beginning to show off, and when I can, try to show parts later in titles. Some of these I may stream or play on my own. I try to stick with ones that are different from the start and play for 45 minutes to a hour (or more) to get a feel for any and all the changes. Always welcome to try new ones! The non-RPG hack showcases usually happen when I come across something that really catches my eye.
Variety Theme Nights
This tag I won’t be using much on my blog but mainly on stream and youtube. Basically any theme nights fall under this: a certain system, franchise, genre, or something else! I won’t always be doing a blog post on the Theme Night, but it’ll be mini-reviews and my thoughts on the games I play.
OTHER SMALLER ONES:
Arcade Night: Just spending the night playing arcade games on MAME. I’ll keep the current format of a couple short games to warmup, then 2 games i can longplay and finish, and then 1 or 2 games to cooldown and final thoughts for the night.
Short Adventure Theatre: Let’s explore new adventures and rpgs! Inspired by my love for rpgs and adventure games, I’ll give 4-6 NES and SNES rpgs and adventure games a try and give my thoughts on them. Some are ones I’ve played, some aren’t so even I’ll be surprised! I’ll spend a half hour on them, maybe longer if openings run really long. Think of it as an opening trailer for these games to see if you want to give it a try! Games can range from Final Fantasy to Terranigma to the Ultima series and first-person maze games like Swords & Serpents and more! (I’ll come up with a better intro for posts later).
Mario Mania: Trying to finished SMB 1-3 on the SNES Mario All-Stars cart since it has the save feature. Along with those I’ll try a full run of Super Mario Land 1 and 2 for Gameboy and Super Mario World for the SNES.
Mega Man Viewer’s Choice: This is something new that I thought might be fun. I’ll start a Mega Man game with full energy tanks, and put up a poll on my Twitch stream of what Robot master to start with, and keep doing that through the 8 (or 6 with MM1), then go through the final castles as usual. MM2 and MM3 have tanks included with the passwords, MM4-6 I would have to prep before stream to get all tanks since they’re not included in the passwords. Considering adding Mega Man X1 to the list, using password to start with all 4 subtanks and just fill them pre-stream. Won’t be doing a MM for a viewer’s choice till finished in Derusting.
