Zelda 1 White Sword/Blue Ring Both Quests Run COMPLETED!!

So as a kid I used to be able to finish both quests of Zelda 1 with only the blue ring and the white sword, instead of getting the red ring and master sword during the game.

So I decided to give this task a try again and the memories began to flow back into me of where items and money were, and getting items early and so forth. I finished the 1st Quest with them both! I had originally planned to take longer with the 2nd Quest, but I started having fun re-exploring everything and just kept pumping at it till I completed both quests like when I was a kid!

and here’s the video of me finishing off Ganon in both quests. Along with an extra video of me cheesing Ganon in the 2nd Quest by accident.

I’d like to thank Hungrygoriya, Nefarious Wes, and others in the retrogaming community for the support in revisiting this big goal of mine from when I was younger!

Initial Thoughts: NES Kid Icarus

So thanks to Hungrygoriya’s playthrough of Kid Icarus, I decided to finally give this a shot. Game had never really interested me as a kid, and I had tried it on my phone emulators a few months ago and was turned off by the high difficulty right off the bat. So earlier this week i decided to give it another try.

Right off the bat i enjoyed the music, the theme in the underworld is something you can whistle to after it gets stuck in your head. Pit controls fine, through his jumps and landings are slippery. At the start, Pit is a wiener of an angel and can increase his stats and abilities through buying items with hearts, defeating enemies to impress Zeus, and through points. Taking it slow and farming enemy drop areas for hearts and points pays off in the end. In fact taking it slow is the way to play this, especially areas with lots of jumps. Each level consists of 3 areas, then a fortress where the game changes layouts and you navigate a maze to get to the boss to obtain one of the three treasures needed to defeat medusa. Final level is a side-scroller to defeat medusa herself.

Items and upgrades are found in shops scattered around stages. You have the basic shop and the black market shop which has rarer items you can buy if you have the credit card. Buying means being in the negatives till you earn enough hearts again. Upgrades are found by defeating enemies and having enough points to impress Zeus, and surviving a brutal training room. Treasure rooms have treasures and by beating the God of Poverty in breaking pots, you can get a rare item.

As of this writing, I just finished the fortress in 1-4, so the underworld is done. I just got my 3rd(?) health upgrade, I have the crystal wand, and 1st arrow upgrade. Also have the barrel and credit card.

Signed Comics

So I’ve mentioned before i attend a few comic and anime shows a year, still trying to get to retro and gaming shows too. New York Comic Con, as much of a hassle and exhausting as it is, is my big one yearly since around its first year. A few years ago i decided to get a few comics signed, and then i got the comic signing bug. So attending shows i take a look at guest lists and see what i have to get signed, some free, some cost.
